How a 2-week jazz trio music residency works at a Maldives luxury resort. The format, the rotating repertoire, what it costs, and why a music residency outperforms single-night entertainment.
Dupa Trio has played two festive-season residencies at Oaga Art Resort in the Maldives: one month at the end of 2023 and one month at the end of 2024. Each year the trio flew in for the high-season holiday programme and stayed on-island throughout, playing the resort's dinner and beach evenings as part of the hospitality offering.
This is the kind of work we book at Lupa Entertainment that does not fit a standard category. It is not a wedding band booking, not a one-off corporate gig. It is a live act flown to a destination as part of the property's seasonal programme.

Why a luxury resort books a jazz trio residency
A few reasons we have heard from properties that hire a music residency rather than a single-night band.
**The music becomes part of the property's brand.** Guests staying for 5 to 10 nights expect the experience to evolve. The same dinner with the same recorded music every night flattens. A live trio that plays a different repertoire each evening becomes one of the reasons guests review the property.
**The format is low-footprint.** A jazz trio fits inside any beach restaurant. The trio arrives with the instruments, the resort provides the sound system, set-up is fast.
**The cost-to-impact ratio works.** Resort entertainment programming is expensive at scale (DJs, theatrical shows, animation teams). A jazz residency is a fraction of those budgets and the share of guests who mention the music in post-stay reviews is high.

What Dupa Trio plays in this format
The trio is trumpet, guitar, bass and vocals. Repertoire moves between jazz standards, bossa nova and contemporary songs reworked into a jazz idiom. Vocals in English. The rotation shifts across the residency so guests staying multiple nights hear a different set each evening.

Where this format works elsewhere
The Maldives residency is the most distinctive one we have produced, but the format scales to:
The common pattern is a property or private host wanting live music as part of the guest experience rather than a single event.

How to book a music residency
For destinations outside Europe, lead time is the main constraint. Flights, accommodation and instrument logistics (the upright bass especially) take preparation. We plan months in advance.
The Lupa team that handled the Oaga residencies is the same team that books European destination residencies. Send us the destination, dates and the format you imagine and we come back with a proposal.
