The gap between a duo and a band is not only headcount. From the four-piece up we include sound and light in the price, which is a production cost, not a musician cost. A duo is priced for a small acoustic setup. That is exactly why it is the efficient choice for the daytime and the wrong choice for a 150-guest dance floor.

When does an acoustic duo work, and when does it not?

It works when the room is meant to stay conversational. Specifically:

**Ceremonies**, indoor or in a garden, where you want live processional and signing music.

**Reception drinks and dinner**, where the music sits under the talking instead of over it.

**Small weddings**, roughly 60 guests or fewer, where a full band would physically dominate the space.

**Venues with noise limits or no stage**, including outdoor gardens and heritage locations where a full backline is not allowed.

**Long days on a controlled budget**, where you want music present from 15:00 to 20:00 rather than a 90-minute show.

It does not work as the only music for the night. Two people cannot carry 120 guests through a late set. A duo has no drums, no bass weight, and no ability to rebuild energy when the floor dips at 23:30.

Which moments of the day suit an acoustic duo?

Four slots, and most couples book two or three of them:

**Processional and ceremony.** Live voice and guitar for the walk in, something quiet under the signing, something warmer for the walk out. This is the single highest-impact use of a duo.

**Reception drinks.** Guests arrive, the duo plays through the arrival hour, and nobody has to raise their voice.

**Dinner.** Two 45-minute sets between courses works better than continuous playing. Guests notice the music more when it stops and starts.

**The handover.** A final acoustic set as the room resets for the evening, then the band or DJ takes over.

Five checks separate a professional duo from a risk:

**Ask for unedited live video.** Not a promo reel. Two people with no drums and no production have nowhere to hide, so a raw clip tells you everything about whether the singing is actually good.

**Ask what happens if one musician is ill.** A duo is the most fragile format there is. Half the act missing is half the wedding. A serious agency has a named deputy for both parts.

**Confirm the power and rain plan for outdoor ceremonies.** Many duos can play a short ceremony fully unplugged, but only if the space is small and quiet. Ask specifically, do not assume.

**Ask about arrangements, not just repertoire.** Your processional song has to be rearranged for voice and one instrument. A good duo will send you a version before the day.

**Pin down set structure in writing.** How many sets, how long, and which hours. Vague timing is the most common cause of a duo that stops playing an hour before you expected.
