Live cover bands that play the songs your guests already know, for Amsterdam weddings, parties and corporate nights.
Booking a cover band in Amsterdam comes down to two things: repertoire and room. A cover band lives or dies on the songs it plays and whether the people in front of it recognise them in the first four bars. That is a different job than an original act or a tribute show. You are not booking a band to perform its own catalogue all night or to imitate one artist, you are booking a band to play the songs your specific crowd wants to hear and to keep reading which ones land. On this page we show which cover bands we book most for Amsterdam weddings, company parties and private events, how their repertoire differs, which one fits which room, and how the booking runs from first message to the last song.
Lupa Entertainment is a boutique music agency in Amsterdam, founded in 2018 by Noam Bargil, working bandleader of Benga Band. We work with a fixed roster of 14 acts we have personally seen and coached live, more than 300 events since 2018 for clients including Heineken, Microsoft, Salesforce, IBM, Booking.com, ING and Tommy Hilfiger. No marketplace pool, no anonymous stand-ins, one coordinator on the night, often Noam himself.
How it works
Which cover band fits which Amsterdam event
With a cover band the first question is not style, it is repertoire and room. Who is in the crowd, which decades do they want to hear, and how big is the space. Here are the cover acts we book most for Amsterdam, what each one covers, and where they fit.
| Event and crowd | Guest count | Recommended cover band | What they cover | Example venues |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Modern dance floor, mixed ages | 100-250 | Benga Band (6-piece party band) | funk, Latin, pop and soul covers | Westergasfabriek, Gashouder, Pulitzer |
| Crowd that wants to pick the songs | 100-600 | Your Band (8-piece with brass) | pop, disco, funk, rock, guests vote the setlist | Gashouder, Kantine25, Thuishaven |
| Multi-generational, grandparents to friends | 80-200 | Savoy (vintage swing, soul, Motown) | fifties to today | Kasteel de Haar, De Duif, Conservatorium Hotel |
| Ceremony, cocktail hour and dinner | 20-150 | Fourtunes (jazz trio) | pop and soul hits reworked into jazz | Hotel de l'Europe, Hortus Botanicus, canal houses |
| Vintage styling, photo-led event | 40-500 | Velvet Jazz | modern hits in forties jazz and swing | Conservatorium Hotel, EYE Filmmuseum |
Every lineup arrives with its own full sound system and basic dance-floor lighting. For rooms with a decibel cap under 90dB (Hotel de l'Europe, Pulitzer, Conservatorium Hotel, De Duif) we brief the band and choose a smaller or acoustic lineup, so the covers still sound right instead of squeezed.
Prices for a cover band in Amsterdam
A four-piece cover band starts at EUR 3,000 with sound and lighting included, and every extra musician adds EUR 500, so a six-piece like Benga Band sits above that line. For a smaller room a jazz trio that covers pop and soul, like Fourtunes, starts at EUR 1,400, an acoustic duo at EUR 1,000 and a soloist at EUR 600. If you want a DJ to carry the late night after the band, a DJ is from EUR 850 and a DJ with full production from EUR 1,500. The final number depends on lineup size, set length, production, the date and the venue. Summer Saturdays and December run higher than midweek in the shoulder season. Send your date and venue and we come back within one business day with a specific recommendation and a transparent quote.
A cover band for your Amsterdam wedding
For a wedding the cover band carries the first dance and the opening of the party, the moment everyone is on the floor at once. We coordinate the run of show so the band opens with your first dance, plays three blocks of 45 minutes, and either closes the night or hands over to a DJ after 23:00 for the late hours. One to two custom songs are included, usually the first dance plus one favourite, with a Spotify link six weeks ahead so the band has time to arrange and rehearse. For a mixed Dutch and English crowd, common at Amsterdam weddings, the bandleader switches languages for announcements. See our wedding band Amsterdam page for the full wedding run of show, and the NL artiestenbureau hub to compare acts side by side.
Cover band, tribute band or original act, what is the difference
A cover band plays a wide range of recognisable songs across artists and decades and reads which ones land, which is what you want for a wedding or party where the whole room should sing along. A tribute band plays one artist all night for fans of that artist. An original act plays its own catalogue, which suits a showcase or a brand moment more than a dance floor. For most Amsterdam celebrations the cover band is the safe and lively choice. If you want a pure dance night or a tighter budget, compare a DJ on our beste band Amsterdam shortlist and the party band Amsterdam page.
Common mistakes when booking a cover band in Amsterdam
- Choosing on lineup size instead of repertoire. A loud six-piece is the wrong call if your crowd wants dinner-jazz covers, and a trio disappears on a 250-guest dance floor.
- Booking late for a summer Saturday. The most requested acts, like Benga Band and Your Band, fill nine to twelve months out, the top acts even further.
- Sending the must-play list three days before. The band needs six weeks to arrange a custom song properly.
- No named musicians in the contract. A marketplace cover band often sends a combination that has never played together.
- Cramming a big band into a capped room. Match the lineup to the decibel limit before you quote, not on the night.
