Hire a live band in Amsterdam that fills the floor and reads the room, not a playlist.
A live band changes a room in a way a playlist never will. The musicians see the floor, feel when a song lands or stalls, and bend the set in real time, which is the whole reason a wedding or a company party books one. Hiring the right live band in Amsterdam is less about genre and more about matching the lineup to your room, your guest count and the venue's decibel limit. On this page we show which bands we book most for Amsterdam events, what each is right for, what a live band costs, and how the night runs.
Lupa Entertainment is a boutique music agency in Amsterdam, founded in 2018 by Noam Bargil, a working bandleader himself. We work with a fixed roster of 14 acts we have personally seen and coached. Over 300 events since 2018 for clients including Heineken, Microsoft, Salesforce, IBM, Booking.com and Tommy Hilfiger. No marketplace pool, named musicians in every contract, one coordinator on the night.
How it works
Which live band fits which Amsterdam event
The match starts with four questions: how many guests, what venue, what mood, and what decibel cap. Below the live bands we book most for Amsterdam events, with the room each one is built for.
| Event | Guest count | Band we book most | Example venues |
|---|---|---|---|
| Modern dance-floor party or wedding | 100-250 | Benga Band (6-piece funk, Latin, pop) | Westergasfabriek, Gashouder, Pulitzer |
| Multi-generational or gala crowd | 80-200 | Savoy (vintage swing, soul, Motown) | Conservatorium Hotel, De Duif, Rijksmuseum |
| Sharp pop and dance covers | 80-250 | Fourtunes (tight pop and dance band) | Kantine25, A'DAM Toren, corporate venues |
| Dinner, cocktail or smaller room | 30-120 | Dupa Trio (jazz with trumpet and vocals) | Hotel de l'Europe, canal houses, Hortus Botanicus |
Each lineup includes a full sound system for your guest count and basic dance-floor lighting. For a venue with a tight decibel cap under 90dB, such as Hotel de l'Europe, Conservatorium Hotel or De Duif, we brief the band and pick the lineup before we quote. For a wedding specifically, the wedding band Amsterdam page has the full ceremony-to-party arc; for a birthday or company party, see party band Amsterdam.
What separates a real function band from a pickup band
The gap between a band that fills a floor and one that empties it shows up in three places, and none of them is the song list:
- Reading the room in real time. A function band watches whether a song is pulling people in or pushing them to the bar, and adjusts the arrangement and tempo on the spot. A pickup band plays the set it rehearsed regardless.
- Production awareness. Our bands know Westergasfabriek's 95dB cap, Conservatorium Hotel's 01:00 curfew and Gashouder's one-shot load-in before you mention them, so nothing is a surprise on the day.
- Named, rehearsed musicians. The people in the video are the people on stage, with a named understudy per role in the contract. A marketplace band sends whoever is free, often a combination that has never played together.
Prices for a live band in Amsterdam
A four-piece live band in Amsterdam starts at EUR 3,000 with sound and lighting included, and every extra musician adds EUR 500, so a six-piece like Benga Band sits higher. A smaller live option, a jazz trio, starts at EUR 1,400 and an acoustic duo at EUR 1,000, both right for a dinner or a more intimate room. Saturdays between May and September and December corporate dates run higher than midweek bookings in the shoulder season.
Every quote is itemised: performance, sound, lighting, transport within 50km of Amsterdam, BumaStemra copyright (around 7 percent of the music budget), 9 percent VAT on the artistic performance and 21 percent on technical services. No hidden agency margin. Send your date, venue and guest count and you get a transparent PDF within one business day.
Booking a live band for a wedding or a corporate event
Most live-band bookings are weddings and corporate events, and they pull the band in different directions. A wedding wants a band that carries the first dance and the opening hours of the party, then often hands to a DJ for the late night. A corporate event wants a band that fits the brand in front of clients and colleagues, strong enough to lift the room after the speeches without overpowering the dinner before them. For the full wedding brief see the wedding band Amsterdam page; for company parties, launches and galas, the corporate band Netherlands page. For a band-plus-DJ late night, we coordinate both as one crew with no gap.
Common mistakes when hiring a live band in Amsterdam
- Matching the band to the genre instead of the room. A six-piece with horns in a 90dB hotel sounds frustrated, and a trio disappears in a 250-guest hall.
- Booking late. The best live bands on a summer Saturday are full 9 to 12 months out, the most-requested 12 to 18 months.
- No named musicians in the contract, so a marketplace act can send an unfamiliar combination on the day.
- Sending the first-dance or must-play song three days before instead of six weeks, leaving no time for a custom arrangement.
