Which anniversary are you planning

Companies mark anniversaries in five distinct ways, and the right act depends on which one yours is.

Many companies combine the first two: an afternoon reception for clients and suppliers, an evening party for their own people. Booking both acts on one day usually saves on the second act's set-up, because the production is already in place.

The formal part carries the evening

At an ordinary company party the dance floor is the peak. At an anniversary it is the formal part: the CEO or founder looks back, a film of old photos plays, a long-serving colleague is honoured, a gift or a foundation is announced. That part has to go right, and the music has a lot to do with whether it does.

The usual failures are predictable. The act is still playing when the speaker starts. The film has no sound because nobody knew it had to run through the band's system. Or after the last speech the room goes quiet and nobody knows whether the party has started. We avoid all three by asking for the running order of the formal part first and building the music around it.

The quarter hour after the toast is the most important of the night. A band that starts at once, with a song everyone in the room knows, tells people the formal part is over without anyone having to say so.

Prices for company anniversary music

An anniversary costs the same as any other event with us. There is no anniversary surcharge.

Every extra musician adds EUR 500. A jazz trio for welcome and dinner plus a four-piece band for the party starts at EUR 4,400 combined. Per guest it is modest: a four-piece band for 250 staff is EUR 12 a head.

A room with three generations, and several languages

This is the real challenge of an anniversary. The intern stands next to the retired director, and both need to feel the evening is theirs. At an international company in Amsterdam there is a second layer: half the room may not speak Dutch.

A band handles this better than a playlist because a good band reads the floor and adjusts. Benga Band, the band Noam leads himself, is built for exactly that: funk, Latin, soul and pop, moving with whoever is dancing rather than working through a fixed order, for 80 to 1,500 guests with full production included. Announcements from the stage can be made in English, so nobody in an international workforce feels like a guest at someone else's party.

One idea that works well: have the band open with a song from the year the company was founded. A 25-year anniversary in 2026 means a company founded in 2001. Tell us the year when you enquire and we check with the band what fits their repertoire. It costs nothing extra, and it is often the moment the longest-serving staff hit the floor first.

If you want your staff to choose the music, Your Band is an eight-piece band with horns whose guests submit and vote on song requests before the night. For the reception and dinner, Fourtunes plays pop and soul reworked into jazz, and Dupa Trio, who played for Microsoft at the Rijksmuseum, plays standards and bossa nova. Velvet Jazz turns current pop into 1940s swing with vintage microphones, which suits a night about looking back.

Handled the way a business needs it

A business invoice with BTW itemised and your purchase order number or cost centre. Musicians named in the contract. If one falls ill, a replacement from the same circle who knows the arrangements steps in, and that is written into the contract. Own sound and light within your venue's sound limit, with speeches and film running through the same system. One contact person from first email to last song, usually Noam.

Many anniversaries happen on the company's own premises, in a production hall or a canteen, and that is normal work for us too: we check power, acoustics and the loading route beforehand.

When to book

The date of an anniversary is usually fixed years in advance, so book six to twelve months ahead. June and September Saturdays compete with weddings; December Fridays compete with Christmas parties.
