A DJ with a live saxophonist in Amsterdam, the club set with a live instrument playing over the top.
A DJ with a live saxophonist gives you the energy of a club set with one live element on top, a real horn improvising over the track in the room. It is the sound most people have heard at a beach club or a rooftop without knowing what to call it, and for an Amsterdam wedding, corporate gala or product launch it does something a laptop alone cannot: it puts a live performer in front of the crowd. On this page we show how the DJ-and-sax format works, who plays it for us, what it suits, what it costs and how the live sax layers over the dinner, the cocktail hour and the dance floor.
The act we book most for this is Golden Sax, led by Miguel, a saxophonist who has played ADE, Tomorrowland and private events in Dubai. He performs live over a DJ set, deep house, disco, Latin and club classics, moving from background to dance floor as the night asks for it. Lupa Entertainment is a boutique music agency in Amsterdam, founded in 2018 by Noam Bargil, a working bandleader. Over 300 events since 2018 for clients including Heineken, Microsoft, Salesforce and Booking.com, a fixed roster of 14 acts, one coordinator on the night. For a plain DJ without the live horn, see our DJ Amsterdam page.
How it works
What a DJ with a live saxophonist actually is
A DJ runs the track, the beat, the build and the energy of the room. The saxophonist plays live phrases over the top, picking the moments to come in and the moments to drop out, so the music breathes the way a recording cannot. It is not two separate acts taking turns. The sax and the DJ work the same track at the same time, and the horn is the thing the room watches. Done well it lifts a deep house set into something people film on their phones, and it works just as well at low volume over a dinner as it does at full tempo on the floor.
Golden Sax is the act we book most for this in Amsterdam. Miguel has the festival background (ADE, Tomorrowland, Dubai) to read a club floor and the restraint to play a cocktail hour without overpowering conversation. For a comparison with the live-trumpet version of the same idea, see our DJ with live trumpet page, and for the plain DJ option our DJ Amsterdam page.
Which events suit a DJ with live saxophone in Amsterdam
| Event type | Guest count | Why DJ + sax fits | Example venues |
|---|---|---|---|
| Luxury or hotel wedding | 60-300 | The saxophone lifts a premium room, strong from cocktail hour into the first dance and the party | Pulitzer, Conservatorium Hotel, Hotel de l'Europe |
| Corporate gala or awards evening | 100-800 | A quiet sax set under the speeches, then the tempo lifts after the programme, premium for client-facing nights | Anantara Krasnapolsky, A'DAM Toren, Rijksmuseum |
| Product launch or brand activation | 100-1500 | A live horn over the DJ gives a launch a visual moment a playlist cannot | Westergasfabriek, Gashouder, EYE Filmmuseum |
| Rooftop or summer terrace party | 50-400 | Beach-club energy, the format people already associate with sun-down sets | A'DAM Toren, hotel rooftops, garden terraces |
Every booking includes a full sound system for your guest count and a basic dance-floor light show. For a band earlier in the evening, many clients pair the DJ-and-sax with an act from our party band Amsterdam page.
How a DJ-and-sax set runs across the evening
The strength of this format is that one act covers the whole arc of the night at the right volume for each part:
- Cocktail hour, the sax plays melodic lines over a light lounge set, kept under conversation level, around 90 minutes
- Dinner, the DJ holds a low background while the sax sits out or plays sparingly
- First dance or programme moment, the sax can play your specific song live over the DJ track
- Party, the tempo lifts, the sax comes back in on the peaks, the floor fills
- Late night, the DJ carries the room to 02:00 or 03:00 within the venue curfew
For a wedding or gala of 150 plus, some clients add a live band until 23:00 and let the DJ-and-sax take the late floor. We coordinate both acts as one crew with no gap in the music.
Prices for a DJ with live saxophonist in Amsterdam
A pure DJ set in Amsterdam starts at EUR 850 with sound and basic lighting. A DJ with full production starts at EUR 1,500. A DJ with a live saxophonist sits between those two, because you are paying for the DJ plus a live performer, and the exact figure depends on the set length and the production. Saturdays between May and September and December corporate dates run higher than midweek.
Every quote is itemised: performance for the DJ and the saxophonist, sound, lighting, transport within 50km of Amsterdam, BumaStemra (around 7 percent of the music budget), 9 percent VAT on the artistic performance and 21 percent VAT on technical. No hidden agency margin. Send your date, venue and guest count for a transparent quote within one business day.
Booking a DJ with live saxophone for a corporate event in Amsterdam
Corporate is where this format earns its keep, because it solves the two halves of a company night with one act. During the walking dinner or the networking hour the saxophone plays melodic, low-volume lines that fill the room without cutting across conversation. After the speeches the same act lifts the tempo and turns the room into a floor, no swap-over, no second crew to brief. It looks premium in front of clients and it gives the evening a live centrepiece. For the full corporate brief with a live band option, see our corporate band Netherlands page.
Booking it for a wedding in Amsterdam
For a wedding the sax-and-DJ is most often booked for the cocktail hour and the party, with the saxophone playing your first dance live over the DJ track for a moment guests remember. It suits couples who want a club-night dance floor but also want a live performer in the room rather than a laptop alone. Pair it with a ceremony act and we coordinate the whole day through one contact, the same way we do on our wedding DJ Amsterdam page.
Common mistakes when booking a DJ with live sax
- Treating it as two acts. It is one act, one quote, the sax and the DJ on the same track, brief it that way.
- No must-play list. Send the songs you want the sax to feature, including the first dance, ahead of the date.
- Booking late. The best hybrid acts are full 6 to 9 months ahead for summer Saturdays.
- Ignoring the venue rules. Hotel de l'Europe and Conservatorium Hotel cap volume and end early, which changes whether the sax plays the late floor or only the dinner.
The booking process
- 1Send us your date, venue, guest count and whether you want the sax for cocktail hour, the party or both
- 2Within one business day we send the DJ-and-sax options matched to your event, with live video
- 3A call with Noam to confirm the act and decide on set length and production
- 4Contract with named DJ and saxophonist, a named understudy and all line items
- 5Briefing two weeks ahead: must-play list, the songs the sax features, run of show and venue curfew
