For a gala or awards night we book an act that handles both halves: a premium set under dinner and speeches, then a dance floor after, with Golden Sax or Drumpet Disco as the hybrid DJ option. How far in advance should I book entertainment in Amsterdam?

For a Saturday between May and September, book 9 to 12 months ahead. The most-requested acts on our roster, like Benga Band and Drumpet Disco, are often full 12 to 18 months out for peak weekends. For the Q4 corporate season in November and December, book at least 4 to 5 months ahead, because the galas cluster in the same few weeks. For midweek or off-season dates, 2 to 3 months is comfortable. A shorter timeline is still worth a call, we can often find a strong act on a midweek date.

Do you only book in Amsterdam, or across the Netherlands?

We are based in Amsterdam but book across the country. Rotterdam, Utrecht, The Hague, Eindhoven and Haarlem are within our standard 50km transport or a listed travel line beyond it, and we also produce destination events across Europe. Each city has its own venues and load-in quirks, which is why we have dedicated pages for places like Rotterdam. Why book through an agency instead of contacting a band directly?

You can book direct, and for a single act on a simple night that is fine. The reasons most of our clients use an agency are coordination and cover. With Lupa you get one contact for ceremony, dinner and party instead of three separate negotiations, named musicians instead of a marketplace stand-in, a named understudy if someone falls ill, and a quote you can read line by line. Because the agency margin is in the coordination, the act costs the same either way, so you are not paying extra for the safety net.

What kinds of acts can I book, beyond a band?

The roster covers more than full bands. You can book a jazz vocalist like Laura Dooge, a jazz trio like Dupa Trio or Fourtunes for dinner and drinks, a vocal harmony trio like Misstery Trio, a party band like Benga Band, a DJ such as Savoy, Peter Smith or Demi Elisa, or a hybrid act that combines a DJ with a live saxophone or trumpet, such as Golden Sax and Drumpet Disco. For most events we book a combination across the evening, for example a trio at dinner and a band or DJ for the party, coordinated as one booking.

Do I get the act I see in the video, or a substitute?

You get the act in the video. Every musician is named in the contract, with a named replacement per role who knows the same material. There is no marketplace pool and no anonymous stand-in. If a musician falls ill more than 24 hours before, the replacement steps in and you are told at least 12 hours ahead. For illness on the day itself, one call to Noam and we arrange cover from our own roster.

What is the difference between an entertainment agency and a booking marketplace?

A booking marketplace lists hundreds of acts it has never watched and forwards your brief to whoever is free. An entertainment agency like Lupa works from a fixed roster it knows personally. The practical difference shows up three ways: who recommends the act (an algorithm versus Noam, who has seen all 14 acts live), who you deal with on the night (a help desk versus one coordinator), and what the contract names (an anonymous slot versus the actual musicians plus a named understudy). The price of the act is the same either way, because our margin sits in the coordination, not a markup on the band.

Is Lupa a booking agency, a music agency or an events agency?

A music and entertainment agency. We book and produce the live music and DJs for your event, from a fixed roster of 14 acts we know personally, and we handle the sound, the run of show and the invoice for that part. We do not arrange venues or catering. Many clients book us direct; others come through their events agency, and then we work as that agency's music supplier with a quote they can pass straight through. Either way you get one contact for everything musical and a quote within one business day.

Can I hire musicians in Amsterdam for a conference or trade show?

Yes. For a conference the music usually has three jobs: background during registration and arrival, something with more presence for the evening reception, and sometimes a short opener before the keynote. A jazz vocalist like Laura Dooge from EUR 600 or a jazz trio like Dupa Trio from EUR 1,600 keeps the foyer warm without competing with conversations, and a DJ from EUR 1,000 or Golden Sax from EUR 1,600 takes over for the drinks. Do you book entertainment for international or English-speaking events in Amsterdam?

Yes, and it is a large part of what we do. Amsterdam runs on expat weddings and corporate events with international guests, so most of our acts perform in English and read a mixed-nationality room. Noam and the coordination run in English, German or Dutch, contracts and quotes come in your language, and acts like Benga Band, Dupa Trio and Demi Elisa are used to crowds where half the room is not Dutch. Yes, that is the most common booking we do. A typical evening runs a ceremony soloist or acoustic duo, a jazz trio like Dupa Trio through the reception and dinner, then Benga Band or a DJ for the dance floor, all on one contract and one invoice. You deal with one coordinator instead of three separate negotiations, the changeovers are planned into the run of show so there is no silent gap, and the production is shared across acts where it makes sense. Does the agency arrange the sound and lighting, or do we have to hire that separately?

We arrange it. A four-piece band and up is quoted, sound and light from EUR 850 extra, run by an engineer who knows the act. A DJ comes either on a venue rig from EUR 1,000, or with full production from EUR 1,850. For larger rooms, outdoor stages or galas we bring in the production through partners we work with regularly, on the same single invoice. You do not hire a separate sound company or chase a lighting supplier. Can I book entertainment for a birthday or private party through the agency?

Yes. Alongside weddings and corporate events we book birthdays, anniversaries and private parties at home, in a loft, on a boat or in a venue. For an intimate dinner a soloist or jazz trio works from EUR 600 to EUR 1,600, for a dance floor of 25 to 45 guests a DJ like Demi Elisa from EUR 1,000 or a band like Benga Band from EUR 3,500. We size the act to the room rather than overselling a six-piece into a living room. Tell us the occasion, the headcount and the space and we send two or three options that fit.

What deposit and contract terms does the agency use?

Every booking is confirmed with a written contract that names the musicians, the date, the run of show, the fee and the cancellation terms, so nothing depends on a verbal promise. A deposit secures the date and holds those musicians exclusively for you, with the balance due before the event. The quote is one itemised PDF: performance, sound and lighting, transport, BumaStemra at around 7 percent of the music budget, and VAT at 9 percent on the performance and 21 percent on technical services. There is no hidden agency margin on top. We are happy to walk through any clause before you sign.

Can the agency book entertainment for a destination event outside the Netherlands?

Yes. We are based in Amsterdam and available for destination weddings and corporate events across Europe, including Tuscany, Provence, Lake Como, Mallorca, Ibiza, the Amalfi Coast, Santorini, Paris, Brussels and Berlin. For a destination booking the quote adds a transparent travel and accommodation line on top of the act fee, and we handle the logistics, backline hire and local production through partners so the act arrives ready to play. Sometimes, and it is always worth asking. The best acts on a summer Saturday are booked 9 to 12 months out, so a few weeks ahead the answer depends on what is still free. Because we work from a fixed roster of 14 acts rather than a vast pool, we can tell you honestly within a business day who is genuinely available for your date, instead of promising an act and scrambling later. Common mistakes when hiring an entertainment agency in Amsterdam
